If the patient’s hair sheds after hair transplantation, will it again grow back?

If you had underwent to a hair transplantation and after surgery your hair starts shed then, don’t worried because shedding approximately 50-150 hairs a day is absolutely normal and fine. This stage of shedding hair represents the natural telogen cycle and it is seen in healthy scalps, which is secure with any infection or germs. It means the scalp is not affected by androgenic alopecia (a disease caused the male pattern hair loss). But you have to be aware of this situation and keep noticing the shedding amount of hair during styling and bathing. Keep this thing in mind that it is a regular hair follicle physiology and these lost hairs should grow back within 3-4 months according to your natural hair growth phase.

On the other hand, the person, who is suffering from hair loss, will observe an increased amount of shedding, and noticing more than 150 hairs on pillows, hands, and towels daily may signify that he needs to see a trusted hair restoration doctor.  And sadly, because of the alopecia development, these hairs may permanently drop and fall out and never grow back.

However, it is essential that a surgeon must use only those hair follicles for transplant that come from the safe donor area and should be protected to the hormones (dihydrotestosterone – DHT) because this hormone is responsible for androgenic alopecia. If a person scalp will immune from androgenic alopecia, these follicles will shed and cycle at normal rates and lost hair should always grow back.

How short the patient’s shave his hair after the hair strip transplantation procedure?

When we talk about the strip transplantation procedure, it is also famous as a follicular unit transplant, so it is different from other transplantation procedures. In this method, the doctor uses a sharp blade to cut out a strip of the scalp tissue from the donor side of the head and then split them into thin individual follicular units by using a microscope. When the doctor completed this step, he carefully put the hair grafts on the recipient’s scalp and sews the area, but it is possible to appear scars on the head after surgery. This procedure has a few of the drawbacks and one of its negative aspects is that it leaves the long linear scar in the donor area of the patient’s head. That’s why the patient has to keep a short hairstyle, as to cover the scar. When this linear scar will disappear, most probably in one month, then you can shave your hair.

But on the other hand, it will vary and depends on a number of factors involves in strip transplantation. For example, a patient with a less scars, superior density in the donor area, coarser, curlier hair, and color of the hair is similar to the scar tissue will be capable to shave his hair.

But if you are concerned about visible signs of scarring in the donor region or patients who desire to shave his hair may go for the FUE hair transplantation. Even if there is still scarring with this method, but the scars are less visible under shortly shaved hair.
